  • Focus on self-awareness:One of the greatest predictors of career success is self-awareness. You need to know your strengths and weaknesses. Never stop learning. Work hard, advance your education, and acquire new skills and knowledge. Consistent growth and learning new skills is imperative.
  • Create your own promotion: Soft skills are often the determining factor in selecting the right candidate for a promotion, and can only be acquired through a deliberate process of active practice. For instance:
    – Practice recognizing people’s accomplishments in public and providing criticism in private.
    – Do not avoid conflict when you see it. Have the courage to confront it with respect and empathy.
    – Seek to understand the situation without judging, acknowledge different viewpoints, and offer alternatives in an attempt to find solutions to problems.
    -How you handle stress and conflicts in public today may determine your chances of getting a promotion much later in your career. People remember.
  • Don’t wait around for assignments: Keep current with industry news and events Seek out ways to improve your company’s current processes or online marketing, it’s a sure fire way to prove your worth to your manager.
    Speaking of, make your manager look good. By doing your job right, asking questions and turning out excellent work you make your boss’ job easier, while securing a promotion when the opportunity arrives.
